I know that Beringar is the last business I am going to build because it’s the first company where we have the ingredients and the recipe just right. Paul and I used our experience to anticipate market and customer needs and create a solution that is ready for what the real estate industry needs today -and the response has been brilliant.
— Mark Sorsa-Leslie
From early in their careers our founders, Paul and Mark, have been committed to bringing the best real estate information to their clients. They founded Beringar in 2016 and undertook a 12 month research project to find the smartest way to create valuable real estate insights. They developed the most advanced all-in-one building intelligence sensor on the market today – the HX series sensor – which simultaneously collects 15 data points in real time. The resultant solution offers clients actionable insights they use to turn their space into intelligent space, that is more productive, flexible and valuable.
WHAT DO YOU DO AT BERINGAR?
I am Co-CEO together with Paul Byrne. I spend most of my time selling, working with clients and partners and developing our product roadmap.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OUR COMPANY CAN CHANGE OR MAKE BETTER?
The real estate industry is a technology laggard and has been for all of my 30 year career. I think we can be part of the movement that finally brings buildings to life in data, and in doing so open the door to more sustainable, comfortable and efficient spaces that are better for the people that use them. Our mission is to help people and buildings understand each other better so both can be more productive. That’s what I want to do.
WHAT ACCOMPLISHMENTS AT BERINGAR ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?
We have won a few awards, but my proudest moment to date was when we finished the first major installation at British Land. It was an amazing feeling to see the technology that we dreamed up and delivered as a team installed in the headquarters of that prestigious company.
WHAT NEW THINGS HAVE YOU LEARNED OR DEVELOPED SINCE JOINING BERINGAR?
Hardware is hard. Software is harder.
Harness your vision of the future to deliver for clients today.
Being naive sometimes helps getting things done.
WHAT DO YOU DO FOR FUN OUTSIDE WORK?
I am a randonneur and love being out on my bike at audax events. During lockdown I’ve been Duolingoing Spanish (155 days straight so far) and like nothing better than firing up the wood burning sauna and relaxing with a beer.
WHAT PIECE OF TECHNOLOGY DO YOU WISH HAD ALREADY BEEN INVENTED AND WHY?
The Demo Effect Reducer – because stuff always seems to go wrong when you’re showing your service to people you want to impress.
