From early in their careers our founders, Paul and Mark, have been committed to bringing the best real estate information to their clients. They founded Beringar in 2016 and undertook a 12 month research project to find the smartest way to create valuable real estate insights. They developed the most advanced all-in-one building intelligence sensor on the market today – the HX series sensor – which simultaneously collects 15 data points in real time. The resultant solution offers clients actionable insights they use to turn their space into intelligent space, that is more productive, flexible and valuable.
WHAT DO YOU DO AT BERINGAR?
I am Co-CEO together with Mark Sorsa-Leslie. I tend to focus on the financial and commercial aspects of running the business.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OUR COMPANY CAN CHANGE OR MAKE BETTER?
The Real Estate industry is a passion of mine but it’s very traditional and can be hesitant in embracing technology. Whether property professionals are artists or scientists is an ongoing debate in the industry that goes all the way back to at least 1792, the date the RICS can trace its history to. Needless to say I’m an advocate of the science side of things but we need good accurate data, and lots of it, to make progress. That’s where Beringar comes in, we are collecting and analysing data to empower clients to make better, evidence based decisions and we are moving as fast as we can to use that data to develop new approaches to property based on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Our service and technology really can make people and building understand each other better leading to workplaces that are more comfortable, more environmentally sound, more productive and more valuable.
WHAT ACCOMPLISHMENTS AT BERINGAR ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?
I’m most proud of being able to persuade a team of amazingly talented and passionate people to join us. They share our vision and are now driving the company forward at an incredible rate.
WHAT NEW THINGS HAVE YOU LEARNED OR DEVELOPED SINCE JOINING BERINGAR?
Beringar is s different kind of company from what I’m used to, we have developed new hardware, new software, and we are creating products as well as services. To do this successfully we’ve learned to put a lot of trust in the team and others who have helped us.
WHAT DO YOU DO FOR FUN OUTSIDE WORK?
I’m a keen amateur photographer and I also cycle in a increasingly futile attempt to counteract my cheese addiction.
WHAT PIECE OF TECHNOLOGY DO YOU WISH HAD ALREADY BEEN INVENTED AND WHY?
I’d love it if the Cerebral Enhance-O-Tron existed. The concept was first envisaged by the Calvin and Hobbs comic strip. Its purpose is to “enhance ones brain” and its made from a cardboard box, a colander and a grounding string. The effects only last for 3 hours but I love the idea that technology can enhance our brain power even if the results aren’t always what we expect.
