This March, after eight months of mentoring and education, Beringar graduated from Unlocking Ambition, Scotland’s flagship business growth and leadership programme.
Beringar was selected earlier this year to join the third cohort of companies on the Unlocking Ambition programme, an intensive entrepreneurial mentoring and education scheme that brings together expert mentors from a range of industries to guide and nurture entrepreneurs and business owners from the length and breadth of Scotland.
Backed by the Scottish Government and Scottish Enterprise, Unlocking Ambition supports ambitious entrepreneurs from across Scotland, each chosen for their individual potential, the quality of their ideas and the contribution they can make to the environment, the economy and wider society.
In addition to the leadership education and a four-session masterclass with Babson College in the US, Unlocking Ambition provided Beringar with a £25,000 grant, with a remit to use the funds to build out new capabilities that lead to business growth.

Beringar and LoRa Alliance
With that generous grant, we’ve set about working with the LoRa Alliance on the certification of the HX2, our cutting-edge, proprietary smart building sensor, while continuing to promote Beringar as a leading proponent of LoRaWAN technology.
LoRaWAN is a low-power network protocol that wirelessly connects devices to the internet. The use of LoRaWAN in smart cities is growing for its affordability, long-range and low power consumption, and Beringar is proud to be at the vanguard of this future-proof technology.
The grant will also help Beringar develop and build a new, intuitive ESG-focused dashboard that will have the capability to automate real estate ESG reporting from live sensor data captured by Beringar sensors.
Beringar’s founders and co-CEOs Paul Byrne and Mark Sorsa-Leslie both attended the scheme, joining a cohort that consists of 36 entrepreneurs from 30 countries. The third cohort of businesses combined is forecasted to receive £24.4m of investment over the next three years, creating 500+ jobs in the process.
Scottish Enterprise Chief Executive Adrian Gillespie said: “The sense of community among our Unlocking Ambition alumni is fantastic to see. They have the passion, energy and drive to scale and grow their companies in ways that will deliver real economic impact for Scotland’s people and communities, and they’re supporting one another along the way. That invaluable peer-to-peer support is one of the things that makes this programme so unique.”
Mark Sorsa-Leslie, founder and co-CEO of Beringar, said: “The Unlocking Ambition programme provided the high-quality input and space we needed to think deeply about how we meet the challenges our clients face. It meant we could double down on our ESG developments and help our clients accelerate towards net zero. It’s been amazing.”
The Unlocking Ambition programme is supported by partners including the Scottish Government, Entrepreneurial Scotland, FutureX, Elevator, GlobalScot, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and South of Scotland Enterprise.
